this new ep is no exception as this time he draws out immersive pads and understated melody over the top of percussive grit, in parts channeling some of that irresistible autonomous africa flavour. the release has already garnered support djs and radio alike with jamie xx playing out reflex on both his recent boiler room and bbc radio 1 guest mix, while another early unveiling of pitch drift dropped recently on benji bs show.

carbon chic, a native of minneapolis, delivers a high-impact redux on a soulful kick for the a-side. while for the b-side, a deep and cozy after-hours excursion effortlessly begins. two tracks at home both on the dancefloor and in your space. beyond the speaker invites carbon chic for the label s sophomore release after legowelt and willie burns shared the successful label debut, angels against dust. with a broken man, beyond the speaker expands its horizons by committing new talent to wax, furthering the label s vinyl expedition. carefully mastered by alek stark, a broken man in redux form does not compromise, upping the tension between burrowing bass, satisfying beat and vocal machinations. on the flipside, deep affection offers a more comforting assortment of synthetic melody and late night warmth while maintaining a firm dancefloor footing with gently rolling hihats topping everything off.

david k is the parisian-turned-berliner producer who has been a prominent artist within the underground house scene since the late 90s, having first joined forces with dan ghenacia of apollonia when releasing his bestseller * boul de nerf* on freak n chic. a fruitful career in production led to music on labels like cocoon, visionquest, supplement facts and bpitch control, while his new album * out of range * is just about to drop. ten years in the making and signed to tiefschwarzs souvenir, david proves his music is still as relevant today as ever. as one of the main artists on freak n chic, david k seemed a natural fit for apollonia to approach...* david is an old friend and talented produced who we have known from the beginning back in paris. of course we wanted to see what he could do for the new label, as you know by now we apollonia are always referring back to our roots. a 2-track package, * middle-aged romance* is characterised by its bell melody and hard-hitting bassline, an electric story moving between ethereal wonder and an intense workout. * drop the beat* perfectly demonstrates the classic chicago house style david k and apollonia first enjoyed together all those years ago, but adding a very modern, textured touch. coming 2014, apollonia invite premiesku to the label – the combination of livio & roby and their pal george g – and also the newest addition to the lola ed roster.

demarzos sound is a meticulously crafted one. his toxic perfectionism and shrewd sense of rhythm lead him naturally to where he is today. his well-revised sets include anything from underground deep house to main room deep tech. after releases on hot creations, noir, glasgow underground or loulou records to name a few, arrives to sincopat with two secret weapons. holster is a cheeky but solid track which brings together groove and melody. analogue synths being added, it also presents changing voices all the way. for the remix, walker & royce take the deep way with a dry kick and sinister notes. pay attention to the astonishing breakdown. trigger is the second original track, in the same language than holster, and using some classic groovebox bullets. ramiro lopez, one of the sincopats golden boys, after his bedrock release, offers two fresh versions with different treatments.

a diverse and damaging three track ep from bone, exploring and exhibiting detroit techno musically, figuratively and spiritually. a1. here to stay (won t fade away) a nod to detroit as an ever-present - a marker by which others are measured, bone s first track on the detroit ep, here to stay (won t fade away) makes a statement above and beyond just being a fine example the music it refers to. the sumptuous melody that opens the track is accompanied by a substantial yet soft, almost warm, kick, a combination that somehow provides an atmosphere and depth way beyond merely the of the sum of its parts. more rolling percussion and drums are crisply ushered in before the here to stay (won t fade away) vocal begins looping over the composition. linear, straight up loops, grooves and rhythm give a consistent sense of railroad-esque motion atop of an ever-present vein of lush synth and melody. a track that is certainly here to stay. a2. detroit is ... soul with more of an emotional focus than symbolic this time, it s clear this one is from bone s heart. detroit is ... soul, ducks and weaves in the grey area between house and techno, the initial percussion that is brushed over the kick giving more of a house swing than a techno groove. the on/off, cut-and-dry synth chords contrast with the looser fluidity in here to stay (won t fade away), and gives a real sense of intent and desire. the real focal point however is the profound vocal that comes swirling over the top, -detroit is what i love, detroit is what i need, detroit is where i m from, detroit s the air i breathe?- no explanation necessary. b. detroit is ... hard bone rounds off part 1 of his detroit ep with aplomb. where the previous two tracks have drawn on the emotional and symbolic significance of detroit as a place and as an ideal, detroit is ... hard, cuts straight to the chase. utilizing the same vocal sample as detroit is ... soul, bone feeds things through the grinder and comes out with a late night dancefloor destroyer that blends millsian fury and red planet mystique with the archetypal subject detroit aesthetic. chaotic arpeggiated melody, indignant claps and breakneck drums and percussion are the chosen company for bone s words on this flipside to detroit is ... soul. detroit is ... hard, undoubtedly to become a mainstay for sweaty after-hours affairs the world over

like stepping into a warm electronic sound bath, chaim’s latest release for visionquest ripples with pulsing sonic textures and propels forward at a softly galvanic pace as the slowly emerging melody takes hold in underwater. b side remember when is just as compelling - a slightly tougher edge and darkly euphoric atmosphere injected with sporadic chimes, disembodied voices and dramatic synth stabs. this is a truly hypnotising release.

harry agius has been making waves as midland since 2010, releasing a series of increasingly impressive 12”s as a solo artist but also collaborating with the likes of ramadanman (pearson sound), breach and pariah on labels such as aus music, naked naked, works the long nights and his own graded imprint. he is also a prolific remixer who has lent his talents to artists such as lone, guy gerber, julio bashmore, dusky and more. we can proudly say he came to many people’s attention via his first phonica 12” ‘play the game’ back in 2010 and he has remained a friend and regular at the shop ever since. midland’s well deserved rise has been a delight to watch from the sidelines and we’re glad to welcome harry back to phonica with the fantastic ‘before we leave’. it starts slowly but surely as reverb soaked percussion comes to the fore, cushioned by the truly beautiful string melody, which we’re sure will be stuck in many a head this year! this could well be midland’s most deftly handled arrangement yet. running back’s gerd janson wisely decides to stick to the original track’s feel, letting the strings weave their magic, yet also brings the bassline and drums to the forefront. delicately but expertly done. midland rounds out the 12” with his barebones drums and percussion-only ‘bonus beats’ version, perfect dj tool material. we wish more records had these!

itokim, aka tendo-based producer takuro ito, aligns with dj bone s subject detroit label with the subject japan: rhythm poems ep and his opening gambit certainly leaves a dent. -motechnique- has been a staple of bone s 3 deck attacks in recent months and it will have eyebrows raised and mouths open from the off. weighty but warm kicks start as they mean to go on, bursting with pace and vigour as thrusts and stabs pinprick the brooding chords. the laidback, easy-going connotations of the title to -roll up and shine- are very much the ethos and aesthetic of the production, as a playful, bubbling melody sets a warm and almost sugary tone from the off before being bolstered by a suave melange of full-bodied kick and dexterous percussion. itokim rounds off his first outing on subject detroit with -the mood device-, a to the point groover that melds elements of the previous productions to stunning effect. a genuine builder of a track with a straight and true trajectory, -the mood device- melds innumerable coatings of percussion and synth as stabs are layered and layered again, clotting and coagulating the composition in to one delightfully deep and multidimensional slice of formidable dancefloor composite.

for our second release on wavereform, we continue our explorations into sophisticated sounds from mostly-unexplored areas with the production debut from juras lietus, a 25 year-old latvian producer from riga whose mysterious origins in this out-of-the-way locale may surprise listeners, but whose sound fits very well into the label’s mission to reform the sound sphere with simple and elegant tracks that demand attention and bring unknown talent deserved notice. lietus wastes no time in showing off his developed dub techno style on >dark frank< as the bold, well-defined contours of the bottom end are contrasted with gentler ambient textures in the opening, it acquires more force as it moves along as he adds harder percussion patterns to the framework while the dense atmospherics progress barely in the background. >direct< is the more subtle and atmospheric of the pair, as crisp, delicate drums develop slowly while also suggesting melody. it too gains strength as it goes though, with ricocheting percussion and a barely-controlled feedback wail leading into a dramatic breakdown before he slowly winds things down in the detail-rich final section. j&#363,,,,,,,ras lietus and latvian techno may be mostly unknown, but this strong showing for wavereform 002 reveals much still to be uncovered in these eastern lands.

on a mission records is the new label runned by jef k and rhythm&soul. focused on keeping alive the spirit of house music that inspires their own musical background. the first release comes with their project: the groove brothers. a classic flavoured house package that shows the label identity. the a side starts with -soul food café-. a strong 4x4 beat, house chords, some vocal hits and catchy piano melody. an everlasting groove. -everyday- is a track made to shake girls on the dancefloor. a funky bassline and a r n b vocal sample that slowly goes warmer and warmer. a summer tune that shows that both producers really like it when things goes sexy. on the b side a remix of -soul food café- by nottingham house legend, nail. a powefull remix that brings his extraordinary touch. floating chords a boundless groovy pad and a pumpy bassline that drives the original track into a timeless uk house anthem.

013 materializes as a long player titled spectrum prints on machining dreams by myself. a single 12 inch with seven compositions, 3 ambient and 4 proper tunes that dig deep into ones psyche with emotive sounds and highly rhythmic syncopation. recorded with mostly analog gear, so the warmth is present as the sound pallette is completely full of life. in this project i try to cover a full spectrum of waveforms that are printed on vinyl, hence the name spectrum prints.

4-cut ep from new yorks engineer to the stars, phil moffa. his first solo effort arrives in the form of an impeccably produced strain of airy, melody-driven techno that doubles as dance-floor-destroyer. *elevation* comes with a set of bonus beats, and *eno-ugh* is coupled with a live reverb recital recorded in the concert hall at the conservatory of music at purchase college where moffa is a professor of studio production. limited to 400 copies, vinyl only.

melbourne talent mos howieson makes his solo 12 inch debut with two heavy diverse originals, backed with remix trips from marco shuttle, eerie boss and recent time to express killer, plus berceuse heroique and macro artist, l estasi dell oro. kemuri beats with abrasive movements engulfing the listener, while bastion soothes with bukem-esque grace and weight. mr. shuttle drives the title track into hyperspace with a steady modular pulse. bastions rising melody is chopped to a galloping groove to the cosmos.

gene hunt is a prolific producer with an un-mistakable sound of his own. and although an originator of the acid house sound from chicago, he certainly didnt stop there. his music has naturally evolved over the years, often incorporating more mature melody and rhythm structures, but always in time with a proper underground style dance track. these tracks are a perfect fit for the direction and vision of the inner shift music label as well, and for this reason we are pleased to present you with planted seeds by gene hunt.

it is with great joy that we present the first kreattones release. for this first release we picked the talented robot love and his super sentimental track *geometry*. this track is a true masterpiece and reveals great attention to detail and construction, never forgetting the feeling and message. we count also with two outstanding remixes in our premiere. one by the unique john tejada, bringing back memories and transporting the listener into a whole new world, due to the gorgeous and complex melody that he created. and another by ben hoo, exploring the elements and turning the original track into a deep and hypnotic journey, full of content and emotion.

hailing from sunny los angeles, plastic love records kicks off our first release with an ep from label co-boss jimmy maheras. maheras made his debut in 2011 with his space jam ep on the crosstown rebels edit sub-label, rebellion. since then he s released remixes and singles on strainjjur, riff raff, supernature, and left d. maheras s two original tracks showcase his depth with the man from another place being squarely aimed at the big room dance floor and the second track, arecibo, bringing a little kraftwerkesque funk. we ve commissioned timothy j fairplay (crimes of the future) and cottam (aus music / ruff draft) for two very unique remixes. fairplay crunches down the original melody and throws it over the famed amen break to give tmfap a hands in air late night feel while cottam s remix brings the dreamy melody closer to acid with storming late night kick ready to knock down a wall.

london-based producer and rinse fm associate rupert taylor, aka xxxy, has announced his second release for the rinse label, featuring a pair of characteristically melody soaked, floor ready house tracks. it is the follow up to 2013s incendiary club hit *got me so*, and is the latest in a series of releases from taylor exploring ghostly house and garage for labels including infrasonics, ten thousand yen and orca.

the hyper-chromatic music of matt cutler marks him out as a true impressionist, as lone, he drizzles brightly coloured melody through his tracks with all the reflexive skill of a master painter daubing inks and pigment across paper. on cutlers fifth lone album, reality testing, released on r&s, he sends notes and chords rippling delicately into space before allowing them to disperse, each oozing beautifully away into the background fabric of the music. combined with rhythms that ebb and flow, shifting from propulsive club constructions to beatific coastal hip-hop, it is a sensuous, immersive, heady experience, and easily his most accomplished and selfcontained work to date.

martin lewis, the insane house kid from berlin is breaking bad with his new and massive “rewind ep” on freebase records. with his first strike “believer” he delivers a flat footed house banger with a grumpy bassline, flavoured with an hypnotizing vocal sample. the second track “ breaking bad”, a genuine groove tool, is also influenced by martins garage credo. sublime melody riffs are competing with a wiggling bassline. tuff city kids, aka gerd janson and phillip lauer come up with two mind- boggling remixes of “believer”. at the “acid remix” they take out their breaky 90s acid drumset. this one is dry, jacking and sophisticatedly tribal. the “tuff city kids remix” starts with desert- dry acid elements which grow up to an uplifting acid soundwall. a true “jack in the box”.

we have reached number 10. time to celebrate with a remix edition of the deep88 & melchior sultana project. awaiting the album release (later 2014) we asked 2 of our heroes if they would like to make a remix for us. with a lot a lot (and a lot) of happiness we announce the nightwave remix by ben >cozmo d< cenac, formerly known as dream 2 science (and sha-lor and newcleus and the cellar boyz), that made us a wonderful space trip with his dreamy synths and stylish drums. the other remix is >yo house< treated by the excellent australian producer andras fox, that converts the song into a super classy deep house one with a lot of hiss and love. the man behind > running late> really made some magic over the melody of yo house, as usual with the aim of analogue warm-tape-feel and his crazy skills.

after forming a successful dj and production duo, live set, club nights, and solo gigs, it is only natural what comes next. in march of 2014, i m in love becomes a record label and hits the shelves with their first release – a vinyl only debut from the hands of joschka tschirley. *alpha centauri* and *proxima centauri* are brilliant examples of tschirleys journey through techno since forming raucherecke in 2007. both tracks exude his warm style with emotional pads, balearic infused percussion, and just enough melody to lose yourself in. tschirley captures familiar moments from the duos past productions while layering his new ideas taken from countless live sets, dj sets, and only the best memories from the i m in love club nights.

luckily there werent any of the anticipated refund claims for the first two chapters of >if this is house i want my money back<. so we finally dared to compile number three. the concept of the compilation is pretty simple: we ask friends, pv regulars, and other good looking producers, who are famous for dancing around the edges of the genre, for an exclusive track, all of which we put together on one neat compact disc. this time the bill reaches from hot shot producer mano le tough (who celebrated his permanent vacation debut on vol. 2 of this series), maeve label buddy the drifter, the swedish house mafia in form of house dandy axel boman and edit ramajam hnny, rising star lake people, long time vacationer bostro pesopeo (together with local munich dj san quentin) and sizzling newcomer boska to the jack of all trades willie burns, fellow nyc resident octo octa, berlin-based melody masters kim brown, the neukölln acid kingpins achterbahn d’ amour (aka iron curtis & edit piafra) as well as hotflush and we play house regular locked groove. each and everyone of the participants are more than convincing in what they are doing and although they have different perspectives on the long runner house music, the tracks come together in sweet harmony on this compilation

if you re going to launch a label, it s always wise to start with a bang. that s exactly what newcomers audio visual have done here, recruiting detroit veteran terrence dixon and chez damier cohort michael zucker (boss of finale recordings, no less) for a four-track trip into deep techno and intergalactic house. dixon goes deep into the groove on the hissing, intoxicating deep techno roller -mta-, before delivering a touch more melody on the retro-futurist gem -over the top-. zucker, on the other hand, opts for a jaydee-does-deep house feel to -foundation (part 1)-, before setting off towards the heavens with the deliciously deep, smooth reflections

the 5th vinyl release for sonora encloses a very unique selection of producers. body & soul, two originals composed by label artist simone venanzi stays true to his sound with both deep and tech structures. for the remixes, we welcome two new artists who have added completely different compositions for each song. eduardo castillos remix of body showcases his unique approach to producing with a very melodic gypset vibe with special use of his les paul for the melody. for soul, boris griggs has given a deep remix with perfect melody recorded on guitar and astounding reverb. all artists have composed incredibly thought out productions unique to their own personal influences making this release an important staple for sonora records.

with *closer* masterton debuts on blackfoxmusics 19th release (bfm019). *closer* is a warm track with a deep groove and beautiful melodies. it relates to living in a long distance relationship and overcoming a lack of proximity.
robert babicz (babiczstyle, systematic, bedrock records) created an incredible remix. he used lots of the original melodies, combined them with new elements, added rolling drums and a thick bassline to give the track the extra drive. his remix became a constant part of his live sets and was debuted with great response at grelle forelle (vienna) and ritter butzke (berlin).
channel x (stil vor talent) remixed *closer* into a pretty cool and clubby deep house track. you can feel their berlin origin when listening to the groovy bassline with variations of the melody. finally the breaks capture the mood of the dissonant sounds from the original track.

shadow movement is a project which started in 2012. after working as solo artists, both rafael and raul decided to share their ideas in a new experience. from house to techno, at this new stage they seek to take their music, loaded with melody and breakthrough content, to the next level.

2013 was a good year for mr natalizia. breaking out of his musical (comfort) zone and touring schedule as one half of kompakt records stars walls, a deeper side to his music oeuvre was shown on the excellent not waving debut, umwelt, before then going on to compile the killer *mutazione* compilation of italian new wave 1980-1988 for strut records. spanning 9 tracks, *human capabilities* takes the sound of umwelt and the subsequent super limited cassette only reinterpretations of redacted and mixes harder percussive tracks alongside explorations of melody through ambient pieces that close each side.

its all over town: mentys back! who could be more suitable for lucky number 13 than mr. techabilly himself? lucky 13 starts with the gamblers hymn all aces high, setting every saloon on fire. your pick could be the bunched remix, if you like it even more funny. flipside is tearing the dancefloor down with later penetrator, a rollin rocker! günther cools it down a bit, with a funky rhythm and a whistle along melody.
